Steve Nash Video: Watch Former MVP Voice Support of Gay Marriage in New York
Monday, 23 May 2011

Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash is one of the best players in the game right now and he has never shied away from how he feels.

Now is no different because Nash has gone on record and is helping with an ad campaign advocating for gay and lesbian’s right to marry.

It was just a matter of time before many major athletes came out and said something against the prejudice that befalls the gay and lesbian community. With Sean Avery in the NHL, other sports will start to follow and the effort will start to gain some real traction with people who normally wouldn’t care or agree.

This video comes out just days after Nash’s team president Rick Welts came out to the world that he was homosexual. The Suns organization has come out to support their chief executive and Nash’s video further drives home the point of needed equality.

The timing is also ironic with Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah yelling a gay slur at a fan in the Easter Conference finals. That can’t be helping the NBA’s image when these two contradictory things happen.

Nash is 100 percent right to do this if he stands for what he is saying because this is America and you can believe whatever you want. Nash has an opinion and expresses it freely.

I’m happy for Rick Welts, Steve Nash, the Phoenix Suns and the whole gay and lesbian community for taking another step towards equality.

Check back for more on the NBA Playoffs as they come, and check out Bleacher Report’s Basketball Page to get your fill of the NBA.
