Stanley Cup Finals Are Tied At Two Games Each, But Who Can Turn the Tide For Vancouver? Last night, the Vancouver Canucks failed to stop the bleeding as the Boston Bruins muscled the Western Conference Champions around the ice, tying the series a two games each as the series shifts back west. Roberto Luongo struggled again in Game 4, giving up easy goals and looking like the goalie that almost crumbled against the Chicago Blackhawks. There is no denying his talent, but in Game 5, Luongo has to step up, and if he doesn't, the Canucks won't stick with him. Per NESN.com: Roberto Luongo will most definitely start Game 5. He got them this far and can't be blamed for all the Canucks' troubles of late. He will be on a short leash, and should he falter badly on Friday, then we could have something to talk about.
You can't blame Vancouver, because in the last two games, Luongo has played poorly. So has the rest of the team, but the Canucks cannot afford to keep him on the ice if he keeps allowing those soft goals that have plagued him in the last two series. Vancouver has gotten muscled around in the last two games of the series, allowing Boston to get confidence and momentum as it heads on the road, the last thing the Canucks wanted after going up 2-0. The Bruins have struggled in pressure situations in this series, but Vancouver hasn't even forced Boston into that element in the last two games. It has been nothing but ugly hockey as the Bruins have built early leads and cruised from there. Vancouver has had no semblance of offense, and something has to change. Luongo is the man who can provide a spark, and he has to come up big in Game 5, because if he doesn't, the Bruins could push the Canucks' backs to the wall.
