U.S. Open Leader Must Win Regularly to Become Tops in the World According to the official World Golf Ranking, Rory McIlroy is currently ranked No. 8 in the world. If he finishes atop the leaderboard at the end of the day, it's no secret that he'll be moving up a few spots. However, if he wants to get that ever elusive and changing top position, he's going to do something that he has not done much of on the professional level: winning. At least now, Rory McIlroy is better known for choking at the Masters this year more than he is for his magical run at Congressional thus far. He'll move up in the rankings with a win, but won't be No. 1. To become No. 1, McIlroy will have to win regularly over the next year and continue to perform well at all major tournaments. Otherwise, he's destined to be a Top 10 guy forever and never a Top 5.
