We drank beer and bourbon while discussing everything from Billy Martin's demise to Bobby Orr's exploits as a young man about town. The former Red Sox and Montreal Expos pitcher shared his thoughts on the 1986 World Series and its continued detrimental effects on New Englanders, brawling with the New York Yankees, Satchel Paige and healthy living, Jerry Remy's career, 2003 American League Championship Series and Aaron [expletive] Boone, Roger Clemens as a "fat and sassy" Red Sox player, Carl Yastrzemski's favorite stewardess, Don Zimmer's failures, Boston sports media, the best bars in Boston and many other titillating topics. One of my favorite Bill Lee stories (that we did not get to cover in the podcast) regards his post-game drinking routine. Lee used to frequent Eliot Lounge just outside Kenmore Square in Boston. If Lee got lit up early and pulled from the game, the regulars and bartenders at Eliot Lounge knew it was only a matter of minutes before they would hear the clickity clack of his cleats coming down the sidewalk and into the bar to ease his pain. Bill Lee's Dream Infield Lee stressed the importance of a good infield to pitching success. With that in mind, we asked him to give us his dream infield: Catcher: Bob Boone, 1st Base: George Scott, 2nd Base: Bill Mazeroski (of today's players Lee chose Dustin Pedroia), Shortstop: Orlando Cabrera or Bert "Campy" Campaneris, 3rd Base: Frank Malzone (check out minute 43 for a great story about the "horniest" third baseman Lee ever played with).
