Whoa, this episode was actually good, Gasmii. Like, really good. The chefs actually got to make things that were inspired and their hands weren't tied by any lameass twists. Everyone had to make three dishes, one that represented their first food memory, one that represented a pivotal taste moment or something in the lives of the judges, and finally, one that represented the moment the chefs decided to become chefs.
Everyone performs really well, Floyd gets caught in traffic and Mary Sue tricks us into thinking that she screwed up, but she didn't. Floyd's traffic debacle made him late to prep, but it didn't make much of a difference in his fabulous meal. Traci competes in her traditionally kickass way, but still makes some dry duck that offends Gael Greene's sensibilities, but I don't really care because Gael's here! Also Susur Lee, Jonathan Waxman, and Susan Feniger!!! There are some SERIOUSLY adorable stories about Mary Sue and Susan's days in Chicago, but I'll save those for the recap.
In the end, despite some seriously slanted editing, Floyd actually wins! It's kinda great because he talks about his dad and cancer and he hasn't won a lot of money for his charity, so yay.
Also, Curtis makes the chefs brunch at his Hollywood Hills home and it makes me want to stalk him even more.
Check back Friday for the full recap! >
