Last night on Hell's Kitchen, we pick up in the wake of Jamie's demise. The teams are shocked to see her go and even more shocked that Elise has stayed. They have to keep their eye on the prize, because their next challenge is the dreaded taste test.
These challenges separate the men... from the mentally handicapped men. They're asked to identify key ingredients, such as sour cream, cheddar cheese and chicken. (Please keep in mind, last year Nona made a name for herself by correctly identifying scallops and securing the win... and she went on to take the competition).
Much like last year, only one player goes 3 for 4 and it's Elise, she wins the challenge for the women. They win dinner in the Hollywood Hills as the Blue team stays behind to watch Natalie have a breakdown and to peel 200 lbs of grapes.
Red returns to find Hell's Kitchen converted to a steakhouse for the night. They also find out they'll be splitting the service. The women won the challenge, so for the first 90 minutes, they'll be the waitstaff and Blue goes down in flames in the kitchen and then vice versa... We get a gratifying elimination (finally), before hour two picks the tale of Hell's Kitchen...
HOUR 2:
The second half of Monday night's Hell's Kitchen opens with a giant tease, as Gordon taunts us with the hope of finally looking our last on Elise's irritating bitchface. Sadly, this was a production ploy, and instead of sending her far away from my television, Gordon sends her and the others on a tasting tour of New York City. They also get a glimpse of the Big Prize when they tour BLT Steak.
Once back on the left coast, the remaining seven contestants help Fox promote legalized gambling with a slot-machine style ethnic cuisine challenge. The winning team gets to go to the beach, while the losers prep both kitchens.
Since there are only three people left in the Red kitchen and four in the Blue, service could swing either way, depending on the number of orders, level of incompetence, and effectiveness of communication. It'll be interesting to see how well Elise is able to function, now that the Carrie-shaped chip has been knocked from her shoulder.
How will things shake out, now that the contestants are being judged on a more individual basis? Will Tommy's natural brain fog stymie him on the path to success? Will Natalie flake out under pressure? Will Elise manage to extract herself from her own ass? Will Paul and Elizabeth realize they are little more than airtime filler--garnishes, if you will?
