 Given the noises being made by Luka Modric, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, it’s time to write off any hope of signing the little Croatian, no matter how perfect a fit he would be for our midfield.
Firstly, Tottenham do not want to sell one of their two prized assets. Spurs are going to be going after Champions League qualification once more, and you’d think Gareth Bale and Modric would be absolutely integral to that. They’re not struggling for cash, or lacking of ambition, so why would they willingly sell? We’d have to absolutely break the bank to bring him in, and that leads us to the next problem. Chelsea are also interested in Modric and, given the ludicrous fee they’ve just paid Porto to release Andre Villas-Boas from his contract, obviously mean business this summer. Although there still stands a chance that Villas-Boas will have other ideas, it seems more likely that he will follow through on the club’s interest in Modric given the blank chequebook he is to be handed. Therefore, if Tottenham were to set a fee or accept any ludicrous offers, Chelsea would be prepared to outbid us. Lastly, Modric himself has stated that his preference is a move to Chelsea. We’ve been undone once more by the fact that Manchester isn’t in London, but understandably so. Luka is settled in London and, although Chelsea’s training ground is an hour’s drive from Tottenham’s and Luka will most likely want to move closer to it. It’s less of an upheaval than a move to Manchester. We can perhaps also thank the ignorant argie troll for repeatedly moaning about how shit Manchester is. Whilst Modric is motivated by ambition, and doesn’t give the impression of being a money-grabber, he considers himself as likely to win trophies at Chelsea as he does at United. So, if you take your red specs off for just a moment and consider all the above, how exactly are we going to sign Luka Modric?
