Celebrities, like everyone, have the occasional brush with the law.

Of course, when Joe Schmo is arrested for DUI or shoplifting, just about no one cares; a movie star or a congressman, on the other hand, is a different story.

So we tend to stand up and notice those offenses, no matter how small or large, when they are made by celebrities.

Athletes are no exception.

Plenty of them are surprises—I don't think the general public could have expected Michael Vick's legal troubles or Tony LaRussa's DUI a few years back.

But plenty of them we should have seen coming. Here are a few.
