Jose Bautista Continues Power Tear and Thus Raises Questions In 2010, Toronto Blue Jays Jose Bautista batted a modest .260, but also slugged a league-leading 54 homers to go with 124 RBI. At the time, fans and analysts wrote it off as a fluke season thanks to playing for Cito Gaston, whose system is free swinging and produces lots of home runs. Yet, Bautista has continued his tear this season as he is currently batting .363 with a league-leading 20 home runs to go with 38 RBI. As of now, he is also the leader in total All Star votes with about 1.26 million. Call me crazy, but I smell a rat here. Up until last season, Bautista's career-high in home runs was 16, which he hit with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2006. In the minor leagues, he never hit more than 24 homers and his career high batting average (for a full season) was .301. Given how Bautista isn't necessarily a big man at six feet tall and 195 pounds, I'm calling a foul on his sudden turnaround. People can say all they want about a shift in his stance or a tighter swing, but no player just suddenly improves that quickly. Given how there are probably plenty of ways to mask PEDs today, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Bautista was juicing
