Roger Federer defeated former gold medal double's partner Stanislas Wawrinka on Sunday, May 29 of the 2011 French Open to move within one round away from facing the world's No. 2 ranked player Novak Djokovic who won his 43rd straight match over Richard Gasquet.
Djokovic received a gift when his next scheduled opponent Fabio Fognini withdrew advancing him to the semis. On the other side of the men's bracket, world No. 1 Rafael Nadal defeated Ivan Ljubicic today to move on to the quarterfinals. All the big names may be left in the men's tournament, but none of the first three seeds, Caroline Wozniacki, Kim Clijsters or Vera Zvonareva remain. As a former world No. 1 player, Maria Sharapova is arguably the favorite of the women who are still alive. She defeated Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland today to move on to the quarterfinals. Stay tuned for more 2011 French Open news throughout the day.
