French Open 2011 Is Underway and Novak Djokovic Is Continuing His Winning Ways Lost in the coverage of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer has been Novak Djokovic and his amazing winning streak. Today, in first round action, Djokovic beat Thiemo De Bakker in straight sets, giving him his 40th straight victory. As the tournament continues, he has to be one of the favorites to win the French Open and I think he will walk away victorious and extend his winning streak beyond the grand slam. Djokovic has recent victories over Nadal on clay and there is no reason that he can't continue to dominate the men's draw and keep winning tournaments beyond the French Open, especially if he continues to play the way he has been of late. It has been amazing to watch and if Djokovic wins here, he has become the best player on tour and should be recognized as such. There is no one playing with better form than Djokovic and even though Nadal has dominated the French Open in the past, it seems like it's time for him to take a back seat to the game's hottest player on a stage that he has dominated. This winning streak is not getting enough publicity, and as he advances deep into the tournament field, more people are going to realize what is going on and give Djokovic the praise he rightly deserves for this amazing performance. It just seems like Djokovic has found his stride as a player and it will allow him to dominate the game for years to come and will win the French Open and set himself up for future success at other Grand Slam events.
