Florida State Football: How Can the Seminoles Finally Live Up to the Hype?
Thursday, 30 June 2011

It seems that no matter the outcome of the previous season, the hype is always high for FSU.  They haven’t been able to live up to those lofty expectations for almost a decade now.  Even with all the talent brought in on a yearly basis, the results have been disheartening.

Last season was the first time fans had a sigh of relief because it looked as though their garnet-and-gold faithful may be headed in the right direction.

So, the one question that remains is how can they finally live up to that hype.

The obvious to most would be winning the ACC Championship and the BCS Championship.  Results are always key to living up to one's expectations, but to me the way they regain their status quo is by ignoring the hype.

Now I am not saying disregard the expectations they have, but simply neglect what all the fans have to say when it comes to how they should perform.  They are well aware of what their capabilities as players, and the coaches know where their team should be game wise.

In order for them to achieve that hype and make teams fear them again, they need to focus on what they can control.  Not what the fans or reporters are saying (because we act like we know it all and we don’t).  Work hard as an individual and as a teammate everyday.  Play within yourself and don’t be afraid to make mistakes, but learn from them when they occur.  Ignore the booing from the bandwagon fans that aren't too thrilled when something isn't going their way.  Most importantly, take it one game at a time.

More often than not, teams get caught looking ahead to a particular game and it ends up costing them.  That is where guidance and leadership comes into play.  Someone needs to take charge and make sure they are 100 percent focused at the task at hand and not the future one.

These are all small intricate parts that can help the Seminoles live up to their hype.  If they can take care of those facets, along with their performance on the field, the swagger may be back and the hype can be met.

Of course as fans we love the huge stat lines and the blowouts, but so what if every game is close as long as we win.  Yes, we will age quicker and have a few more grey hairs than the year before, but it'll be well worth it. Especially when those high expectations are met and they are holding up that crystal ball as National Champions.
