 Cincinnati Reds third basemen Scott Rolen isn't exactly giving the team the stats he did at this point last season. Although Rolen is a great leader who the team really responds to, no one pays attention to what all this man has accomplished in his major league career.
We know all about his World Series title he won with St. Louis, six all-star games, eight gold gloves, and the 1997 Rookie of the Year. With this very impressive resume, we may see Scott Rolen add onto these accomplishments as soon as this week. Baseballreference.com shows Scott Rolen at 1,995 career hits going into the game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night, putting him at just five hits away from hitting the milestone of 2,000 career hits. I know that Derek Jeter is on the verge of 3,000, but as fans we should still be proud of what Scott Rolen is on the verge of. I get that compared to past players, 2,000 isn't exactly Cooperstown numbers, but to have 2,000 hits in the major leagues is something only accomplished by around 265 players in history along with just 17 other active players. Fellow Bleacher Report writer and Reds featured columnist Cliff Eastham wrote a very good article in regards to Rolen's chances of becoming a member of the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame, and I feel that adding the 2,000-hit mark to his great career can help Rolen achieve Hall of Fame status. Now, as passionate Reds fans, when you watch the team take on Tampa Bay and Cleveland this week, you now have a chance to watch history. For my sake, I hope he gets four hits in Tampa so I can see hit 2,000 in Cincinnati on Friday. God forbid something happen this week, I'd like to go ahead and congratulate Scott Rolen in advance for hit number 2,000.
