Arsenal Transfer News Sees Barcelona After Cesc Fabregas Once Again
Arsenal have officially begun the annual dance to protect star attacking midfielder and captain Cesc Fabregas from his former club, Barcelona. Almost from the instant the Gunners snagged Fabregas from Barca as a 16-year-old, the Catalan club have been angling to get him back, but Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has deflected every advance they've made.
According to the report, the Gunners' signing of Barca prospect Hector Bellerin, the 16-year-old phenom, has angered the Spanish juggernauts, who were just crowned European champions once again over the weekend. The fullback joins Jon Toral on the list of Barca graduates who signed with the Gunners.
The move prompted Barca to re-double their efforts to bring Fabregas back into the fold, and the club are reportedly planning to offer Wenger a ÂŁ30 million fee. If that's baffling to you, you're not the only one.
After all, the Spanish side bid ÂŁ35 million last summer, and claim Fabregas' value has dipped since then. Whether that's true or not, the fact is that the sum is still well short of the ÂŁ60 million price tag Wenger has placed on his captain.
The fact of the matter is, we've been down this road several times before with Barca and Wenger. Until the Catalans pay the king's ransom Wenger is charging, the Gunners coach doesn't need to send his star player to Barca until at least 2013, if ever.
In the end, this has all the makings of posturing on the part of Barcelona, as the know full well what it will take to grab the talented scorer away from his current employer and bring him back to the Nou Camp. Until we actually see Fabregas holding a Barca jersey at his introductory press conference, I won't believe that Wenger has actually sent him back to Spain. Barca can keep trying all they like, but Wenger has made his thoughts on the move quite clear through the years, and can hold onto his captain as long as he likes.
