We all thought the Carolina Panthers won the Andrew Luck sweepstakes when they finished with the worst record in 2010. Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh left for the San Francisco 49ers, but Luck surprisingly stayed in college. We’ve seen highly touted quarterbacks appears as locks to the top the draft one year, only to back to college and cost themselves the honors. Matt Leinart and Jake Locker quickly come to mind in recent years, and although they were still drafted in the top 10, they cost themselves the No. 1 spot. Now, the race is back on. The 2012 quarterback class will be far superior to 2011’s, which saw Cam Newton go No. 1 overall to the Panthers. USC’s Matt Barkley and Oklahoma’s Landry Jones are both breathing down Luck’s neck. Will the best quarterback prospect in the nation fall victim to two vultures eying his perch? It is never too early to look ahead to the next crop of NFL superstars. In light of the current lockout, college football is still expected to have a remarkable and exciting season. We have immense talent to watch hone their crafts heading into the 2012 NFL draft. Once again, we expect many underclassmen to enter the draft. Still, all eyes are on the terrific quarterback trio. All three men are expected to make a run at the coveted Heisman trophy. Like Newton last year, whichever star wins the trophy could very well see themselves land atop the draft. With a fresh draft order for 2012, which team will win the sweepstakes to draft one of the top three quarterbacks? More importantly, will Andrew Luck be the top pick?
