2011 NBA Mock Draft Hears Steve Nash Trade Rumors, Could Make Be Steal of the Draft Steve Nash was drafted 15 years ago out of Santa Clara University, No. 15 overall to the Phoenix Suns. We know him as one of the best point guards to ever play the position, and now, at 37-years old, he could be the steal of the 2011 draft. Obviously Nash isn't re-entered in the draft, but trade rumors, which have been circulating around Nash since October, have cropped up again and the Suns might actually find a deal worth taking before tomorrow night is complete. The biggest rumor so far is talk of the Minnesota Timberwolves bringing in Nash to mentor young international sensation, Ricky Rubio, who has finally decided to come to the States. According to the ESPN report: The Phoenix Suns' general posture has been to rebuff trade inquiries for star guard Steve Nash, but the Suns have had discussions this month with the Minnesota Timberwolves about a deal to send Nash to Minnesota in a package for the No. 2 overall pick in Thursday's draft, according to sources briefed on the talks.
But the legs on that rumor have been chopped off already. Must Read: 2011 NBA Mock Draft: Projecting All 1st and 2nd Round Picks The Suns don't want to get rid of Nash, but is also an expiring contract with a lot value. Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix tweeted this morning, "Source: Nash/Minnesota deal not happening", and we should never have expected it to. The T-Wolves are far from competing for a title and that is all Nash wants. He has stated that he'd like to play out his contract, calling himself, "old school like that", but there are a number of other teams he could help immediately. The New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers and Orlando Magic are three possible contenders with Nash running the show, but they all pick after the Suns (Orlando doesn't have a first round pick either). Phoenix is looking for a way to move up, but if they strike at No. 13 with a player they love, maybe a second first round pick won't look so bad after all. If New York, Portland or Orlando were able to broker a deal for Nash he would easily be the steal of the draft, regardless of what else happens. It is not likely at this point, but we have seen crazier things happen.
