Donnie Walsh may be on his way out of New York and possibly headed toward the end of his general manager career, but don’t be surprised if he selects a player similar to the one who powered his rise to general manager elite in the first place. Marc Berman of the New York Post writes that Washington State shooting guard Klay Thompson strongly reminds Walsh of former Indiana Pacers great Reggie Miller. Thompson, whose lanky 6-foot-7 frame mirrors Miller’s wiry physique, is not guaranteed to be available when the New York Knicks select 17th overall, but Walsh certainly believes there is a chance. The agile perimeter shooter would be an ideal addition to a Knicks backcourt that could use more long-range explosion. News of Thompson’s June 2 workout with the Knicks was largely drowned out due to the presence of another prospect, Brigham Young guard Jimmer Fredette, who boasts a similar shooting touch. Don’t be surprised to see New York target a sharpshooter with the 17th pick.
